Let’s break the silence. For too long, money has been treated like a taboo topic — something we’re taught to avoid, fear, or feel shame around. And for women and people of color, not talking about money has a greater impact on us. That silence we notice around money? It’s keeping our people stuck, overwhelmed, and living paycheck to paycheck.
At Saving Sense, we believe in talking about money us normal, safe, essential, and empowering — especially for women and BIPOC communities who’ve often been left out of wealth conversations. Let's face it, money talk isn't reserved just for the finance bros. They're talking about it and building their wealth, so why aren't we?

The Real Cost of Avoiding Money Conversations
If you grew up in a home where:
Money was always “tight”
Bills were paid late
You heard “we can’t afford that” more than anything else…
You're definitely not alone, and you may be carrying what we now call money trauma.
That can look like:
Overspending to keep up with the Joneses
Never feeling secure, even with a decent salary
Feeling guilty for wanting more than just “enough”
Why This Isn't Just About Dollars — It's About Mindset
When we aren’t talking about money, we internalize messages like:
“Wealth isn’t for people like me”, “I’ll always be broke”, “Budgeting means I’m poor.” And when those beliefs take root, it’s easy to fall into cycles of: living paycheck to paycheck, avoiding budgeting altogether, and delaying important things like saving, investing, or paying off debt.
What Happens When We Start Talking?
When we open up about our financial struggles and our goals, we can turn our shame into strategy, we can learn from each other instead of staying stuck in silence, and we create a pathway from being broke to building generational wealth. And on a bigger spectrum, we can change the trajectory of our community- financially depending more on ourselves than on our government.
Let’s Normalize These Conversations
We talk about our jobs, our relationships, sex, even our wellness routines. It’s time we being talking about our money too— because ignoring it doesn’t make it go away. The more you talk about money, the more confident you become in making it, managing it, and keeping it.
